Korosho Marathon has been generated from one of the core functions of CBT which is “To promote the development of Cashew production, processing and marketing” and again the Fifth and Sixth term Government has shown clearly their focus on promoting investment in the Cashew sub-sector specifically on the encouragement of local consumption of cashew nut and other products like jam, juice, cashew milk, wine, Ethanol, Apple meat of which will automatically trigger the increase of local processing and have a multiplier effect in the economy of the country.  To emphasize such activities, this year’s Korosho Marathon will seek to raise funds to support small cashewnut processing groups in the Mtwara region aiming to support women groups and individual processors with high processing capacity in Tandahimba and Newala districts. The selected district are the leading ones with 95% of processed kernels consumed locally in Tanzania. 45% of the collected revenue from this line will assist small processors to access shelling machines, packaging machines, and storage facilities

 

                           OBJECTIVES OF KOROSHO MARATHON

1. To discover and develop athletic talent within the Mtwara Region and Tanzania in general.

2. Promoting through sport the opportunities available in the cashew crop and encouraging the consumption of cashew nuts and the use of cashew products by all Tanzanians to expand the scope of the domestic market.

3. Encourage the whole community to practice jogging with the aim of building health and preventing non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity in order to have a healthy society for the development of our country.

 

Korosho Marathon this year is expected to be held on 02 September 2023. The marathon brings together runners from all walks of life, including Small Cashewnut farmers, Employees from the Public, Private Sector, Informal Sector, investors, and other stakeholders. This will be a platform to engage different stakeholders and beneficiaries to create awareness of the cashew sector and promote the use of cashew by-products
